SEVP Portal for STEM OPT Updates

SEVP Portal for STEM OPT Updates

While on STEM OPT, you will use the SEVP Portal to report updates to your address, and phone number within 10 days of the change. Any updates you make in the portal will be sent directly to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

You will receive an email with instructions on how to create an SEVP Portal account. This email will come from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov. If you do not see the email, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you still do not see it, contact the Cal Poly International Center to have the email sent again.

The SEVP Portal will allow you to:
  • View details about your post-completion OPT
  • Report changes to your address and telephone number
  • View and update certain information about your employer
Report a Change of Employer: You cannot add a STEM OPT employer in the SEVP Portal. To add an employer to your record, submit a completed Form I-983 to the Cal Poly International Center using the OPT Employment Information Update Form. The International Center will enter the employer information in SEVIS. If you notice that any of the read-only fields need to be edited, you must work with the Cal Poly International Center to change the data. You will use the OPT Information Update Form to submit your I-983 form for your final evaluation if you leave an employer. You must submit the I-983 forms within 10 days of changing STEM OPT employers.

6-Month Validations: You will use your existing STEM OPT Extension application to submit your validation reports every 6 months and your 12-month evaluation and final evaluation at the end of your STEM OPT period. Review this Chart of STEM OPT Reporting Requirements.

SEVP has created an SEVP Portal Help section on Study in the States with: Once you create your SEVP Portal login, remember to log in every 90 days to keep your account active.

If you have any questions about the SEVP OPT portal or need assistance, call the SEVP Response Center at 703-603-3400.  You will still contact the Cal Poly International Center for employment reporting, adding F-2 dependents, or other visa issues.
